A South African resident having a bar-coded identity document from their country who is enrolled or plans to enroll at a South African university or university of technology, in need of financial support, and who can show they can succeed academically.

Ubumbano Rail, Alstom, and New Africa Rail formed Gibela as a South African and French manufacturer of railroad rolling stock. The black-owned business is currently 61% held by Alstom, 30% by Ubumbano Rail, and 9% by New Africa Rail.

In 2013, Gibela was compelled to spend heavily on a brand-new metro system to replace its deteriorating fleet. The introduction of 600 cutting-edge commuter passenger trains into the nation’s rail network was ordered by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) for ten years.

Gibela is currently accepting applications for its scholarship program for the 2023–2024 academic year.

These costs will be fully covered for University and University of Technology students:

book allowance, tuition, lodging, and meals

Please be aware that the bursaries awarded have a one-year expiration date and may be renewed with strong academic achievement.

Requirements for Eligibility: South Africa Gibela Bursary 2023

Before applying, candidates must fulfill the following entry requirements. Please be aware that your application will be denied if all prerequisites are not met:

Those pursuing TVET

You must be a resident of South Africa.

By 2022, you must be enrolled in or have completed Matric.

You must have at least a level 4 in math, science, and English on your matriculation exam.

In 2023, you must be enrolled in, or intend to enroll in, one of the aforementioned streams.

A South African Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution is where you must be enrolled or intend to enroll.

You must be academically accomplished and have the potential for academic awards.

There must be a need for help.

We encourage current N3 and N4 students to apply.

You must be a resident of South Africa.

In 2022,

you must either be enrolled in or have finished Matric.

You must have a least level 6 Matric score in accounting, physical science, and mathematics.

An English result level of at least 5 is required for Matric.

In 2023,

you must be enrolled in, or intend to enroll in, one of the aforementioned streams.

A recognized South African institution or university of technology must be where you are enrolled in classes or where you intend to enroll.

You must be academically accomplished and have the potential for academic awards.

There must be a need for help.

Gibela Scholarship for South Africa 2023: Documentation Required

The following supporting documents should be submitted with an application by students who meet the minimum eligibility requirements. The following paperwork must be submitted; if any are missing, your application will be turned down:

• an authenticated copy of your ID.
• Authenticated copies of academic records
• a copy of your resume
• proof of the income of the parents or guardians

TVET students must provide written documentation of their admittance into a TVET institution in South Africa.

For students at universities and universities of technology in South Africa, documentation of admission acceptance on letterhead is necessary.

Expiration Date Gibela Scholarship in South Africa 2023

Gibela Bursary 2023 applications must be submitted by January 15, 2023.

After this date, all applications will be rejected.
